Project Management
As a project manager, I’ve worked with editors, writers, and clients. I’ve navigated each stakeholder’s needs and delivered
content on time and on-brand.
Here are a few of the tasks that required:
Recruiting, training, and coaching freelance teams
Negotiating freelancer rates
Creating and monitoring project budgets
Building and updating company style guides
Ideating topics for client consideration
Strategizing content and devising monthly calendars
Pitching and assigning articles
Preparing briefs for writers’ assignments
Optimizing for SEO and readability
Managing editorial teams and ensuring overall quality
If you’re looking for a project manager, I’ll ensure the final product is polished and ready for publication.
Below are a few projects I’ve successfully delivered.
Red Ventures
-
Red Ventures is a portfolio of businesses that help millions of people make informed decisions about the things that matter most.
-
For this project, we created briefs: the set of instructions that would help their editorial teams successfully write articles across seven different verticals:
Credit Cards
Investing
Deposits
Insurance
Loans
Home Lending: Home Equity
Home Lending: Mortgages
The initial contract was 20 briefs per month with one editor. This quickly bloomed into 420 briefs per month, with upwards of 110 briefs per week requested at the project’s peak.
-
As Red Ventures’ production needs ballooned, I kept pace by:
Recruiting, training, and managing two more editors
Building templates to match each team’s internal formatting for their briefs
Dispatching assignments to each editor based on their availability and capacity
Collaborating with the Red Ventures team weekly to gather feedback and deliver briefs
Monitoring project fulfillment of the client’s original content plan
Updating my team regularly on upcoming changes and needs
Red Ventures + edX
-
edX, an online learning platform owned by the digital education company 2U, provides millions of people worldwide with online learning courses that help them advance in their careers.
-
Create 500 articles about different types of jobs and what degrees are required for each.
Sample articles:
-
In the span of four months, and in partnership with a large editorial team at Red Ventures, I successfully helped project-manage the creation of 500 articles for edX by:
Recruiting 4 freelance editors and 16+ writers from ClearVoice for the project
Creating dozens of assignment templates for my freelance editors to use for all the different categories of articles we were going to produce
Meeting biweekly with the Red Ventures team to discuss edX’s feedback and fine-tune our processes
Collaborating weekly and oftentimes daily with the ClearVoice team to provide training and guidance on edX’s expectations, improve content quality, and quickly ramp up production to meet the deadline
And finally, creating individual pages for publication
Bankrate
-
Bankrate‘s award-winning editorial content guides readers through every stage of their financial journey. Their articles and comparison tools provide objective and actionable next steps to help readers make informed decisions for their financial well-being.
-
Deliver a weekly set of 1500-word articles across six different verticals:
Credit repair
Debt relief
Pet insurance
Financial wellness apps
Money exchange
Small business banking and saving
Sample articles:
-
Over the course of a year, I project-managed 500+ articles for Bankrate, with a cadence of between 10-16 articles per week. The number of verticals and articles per week grew over the course of our partnership. I kept pace by:
Recruiting, training, and managing a large team of freelancers: one primary editor and 3-4 writers per vertical (20+ individuals total)
Creating brief templates for each new vertical to match Bankrate’s internal formatting of their content
Hosting monthly calls with the Bankrate team to discuss feedback on our content and production process
Collaborating weekly with the lead editor to ensure feedback was being implemented and weekly deadlines were being met
Monitoring project budget and fulfillment of the client’s content plan
Conducting weekly audits on content quality
PYMNTS
-
PYMNTS is a global leader for data, news and insights on innovation in payments and the platforms powering the connected economy.
-
Working at PYMNTS was like working in a newsroom: You had to be on your toes, ready to tackle anything, and able to shift gears when the winds changed.
The company published three daily newsletters, along with hundreds of short-form articles every week. Breaking news that was payments-related was prioritized, which meant a constant reorganization of writer assignments and editorial tasks. The CEO also wrote a long-form editorial on the week’s biggest news. This would usually arrive Sunday afternoon and had to be prepped and error-free for publication on Monday morning.
Because of this, my editing role quickly expanded to include project management.
-
To get it all done, I…
Edited 20+ daily articles and three newsletters on tight deadlines
Updated PYMNTS' style guide when changes were made company-wide
Personally edited the CEO’s weekly article
Pitched and assigned breaking news, longer-form stories, and interviews in accordance with PYMNTS' editorial calendar and client deadlines
Maintained the daily content calendar
Prepped three daily newsletters for publication; this included writing headlines, searching for news to cover, pitching ideas to the CEO, and updating the team when changes were made (intraday)
Ran weekly calls with the copy-editing team and trained new editors
Organized schedules and assignments for copy editors and writers and handled invoices for contractors
Monitored SEO to drive numbers and engagement with readers
